If you are currently drinking bottled water there are some
reasons you should stop doing so immediately.
If you are concerned about your health and that of your family, or if
you are concerned about the health of our planet, upon which we depend for
life, please read on.
Become a healthier
person, a smarter consumer, and a global citizen.
Here are some reasons you should stop drinking bottled
water:
1) Nearly all bottled
water is just bottled tap water at 1,000’s of times the cost
Only some bottled water comes from springs or groundwater
sources. Actually, around 50% of bottled water comes from ... the tap. Yes, some companies filter or radiate the tap
water with ultraviolet light before selling it to you at several thousand times
the cost of municipal tap water. (Examples include Aquafina, Dasani, and many
other brands.)
Just because the label on the bottle shows a mountain spring doesn’t
make it pure and pristine.
A Readers Digest article spoke of studies showing that bottled water samples can contain phthalates, mold, microbes, benzene, trihalomethanes, even arsenic. The FDA only recently start regulating bottled water for E. Coli, thanks to advocacy by the Natural Resources Defense Council.
The profit margin on bottled water is extremely high Many localities don’t really enforce health
standards. Sometimes it would be wise to
filter or purify your tap water. You can
Health standards are often a wash and may even favor tap water. You might want to consider ionized alkaline
water.
2)
Many bottled waters
contain toxins
In addition to being bad for the planet, plastic is harmful to
you, too.
Many bottled water companies are starting to use BPA-free plastic
bottles, however, these bottles contain other chemicals that can leach out into
your water when they are exposed to heat or if they sit around for a long
time. Many of these chemicals are
endocrine disruptors. These can mimic,
alter or block hormone production or your system. The health outcomes are not certain, but do
you really want to experiment with your body?
3)
Despite what you may
have heard, plastic bottles are not sustainable
The manufacture, filling, and shipping of these bottles around the
globe uses vast quantities of fossil fuels and water. In addition, these bottles are not biodegradable
in any meaningful way. In other words, you drink something for a few
minutes and the package it came from sticks around for a thousand years.
Even with recycling efforts on the rise, 6 out of 7 plastic
bottles consumed in the U.S. are sent to a landfill somewhere out of sight and
mind. For the next millennia, toxins
from this degrading plastic can leach into our watersheds and soil. We do not want to do this to global neighbors
and future generations.
4)
There are alternatives
to drinking Bottled Water!
You might consider getting a good water filter for your tap water
at home. Most municipal water contain a
variety of chemicals that have been added to kill germs, clean municipal water
pipes, reduce acidity etc. MOST OF THESE ARE NOT GOOD FOR YOU. You should also consider drinking ionized
alkaline water. Many studies have shown
that alkaline water helps your body fight disease, help your immune system and
help keep you hydrated and the cellular level.
Did you know, that according to the AMA, nearly 70% of Americans are chronically
dehydrated? Ionized, alkaline water is
restructured to have fewer molecules per cluster. This means that the water passes more easily
through the aquaporins in your cells so they can absorb the water and
adequately hydrate you.
What about the “convenience” of that little plastic bottle when
you are on the go? Chose a durable, reusable BPA-free water bottle. You can continually refill these with
healthy, filtered, alkaline water for when you are “out and about”. At home, try an alkaline pitcher to keep fresh water handy.
5)
