What is Magic about Outdoor Air?

By: Lynn Knudsen  ©Green Health Technologies, 2017

What is the most important thing to life?  Is it Food?  Or Water?  Or Air?  We all know it is air!  We can live a few weeks without food and a few days without water, but only a few minutes without air!  However, the quality and type of air is very important.  There is a big difference between being in indoor air and outdoor air for prolonged periods.

Have you noticed how lethargic and “slugged out” you feel when you are indoors for an extended period of time?  Do you find yourself with allergies or headaches or just feeling “out of sorts” or easily irritated when spending too much time indoors?  Have you noticed that you don’t seem to breathe quite as well, or as deeply?  Are you sleeping well?  Have you noticed a decreased memory or mental sharpness?

Have you ever wondered why that is?  In a word, it is the AIR!

Is outdoor air pollutant free? NO!   Is outdoor air pure air? NO!  Why then do we feel so much better when we spend several hours outdoors?  What is magical about the air outdoors?

To answer that let’s also note that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has stated that indoor air can be between 5 and 100 times more polluted than outdoor air.  Sounds hard to believe doesn’t it?  Let’s examine a few reasons why that is so:

First, the air indoors is in a confined space.  It doesn’t get exchanged continually as does outdoor air.  Our modern buildings and homes are designed to be energy efficient.  Part of that means being nearly airtight, which limits air exchange severely.  But, you say, houses have windows which can be opened, and doors get opened, letting outdoor air come in.  That’s true, but surprisingly, air coming in through an open window doesn’t penetrate into the interior parts of a home.  It stays fairly close to the windows or doors.  The walls, furniture and other objects are very effective at blocking a free airflow.

Secondly, the air indoors is constantly being filled with unhealthy things.  Of course, we are breathing, which intakes and consumes a lot of the oxygen in the air and replaces it with the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) we exhale.  Then there are things like dust, pollens, pet dander, skin cells we slough off on a daily basis, chemicals from household cleaners, carpeting, furniture, cabinets, laundry detergents, smoking, cooking, etc.

Third, the air indoors gets “stale” very quickly.  The number of electronic appliances puts an overabundance of positive ions into the air which make the air feel heavy and stale.  Because there is often a lack of air circulation, the air just collects more and more of all of these odors, particles and other things and begins to feel more and more “dead”.

Finally, there are insect parts, dust mites, maybe mold and mildew spores and even germs and bacteria that float around in the air.  Some of these particles are very small, too small for even HEPA filters to capture.  These sometimes very small (0.3 microns or less can stay airborne for days to even weeks.  Even the larger particles which eventually fall to the floor and settle on surfaces such as countertops, furniture, etc. can be continuous problems because just living, vacuuming, walking around, sitting on the furniture or dusting can stir them up and get them back into the air we breathe.

Now let’s look at outdoor air!  As mentioned above, outdoor air also has pollutants in it.  It has pollens, smoke, germs, even small particles of decaying matter, both vegetable and animal, as well as biologic materials from animals.  It can also have odors.  So why does outdoor air make us feel so good and indoor air (which begins as outdoor air) have negative effects on our bodies?  What is the magic of this outdoor air?

The “magic” is nature itself!  In nature, the sun, wind, and moisture in the air create ENERGY!  This energy is extremely important.  It affects and interacts with the other naturally occurring chemical and gas molecules in the air to form Hydroxyls which are the atmospheres’ natural “scrubbers” which interact with the molecules of the pollutants in the air to change them on a molecular level into something different and harmless.  In addition, in nature, the air is “balanced”.  It has a balanced mixture of positive and negative ions.  An advantage of negative ions is that they cause pollutant particles to cling together and become heavy so that they fall out of air.

In short, what it all comes down to is that it is this energy that is naturally occurring in outdoor air that is the “magic”  it makes outdoor air clean (though certainly NOT PURE) enough  for us to thrive.  Outdoor air helps us breathe deeper, resulting in better transfer of oxygen into our blood.  This helps our organs including our heart, lungs and brains function more efficiently, and helps our mental acuity and memory.  Importantly, it helps us sleep better, and more restfully since we are breathing more deeply and easily.

The big problem with indoor air is that it lacks this energy in sufficient quantity to cause all these wonderful things that nature does to air outdoors to happen indoors.  Part of the problems is that indoors, walls, plumbing, appliances and other things “ground” the energy in the air and leave it deficient so it gets stale, and loaded with pollutants.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could somehow give indoor air the energy that outdoor air has?  Good News!!!!  We Can!

There is a revolutionary new technology called Air Naturalization.  It is available in a product called the Air Naturalizer™ by AirRestore.  It electronically replicates what nature does:  “It Restores the Energy to Indoor Air to make it Act like Outdoor Air”

This small (only 4½” tall) unit is designed to treat up to 800 square feet of air space and to be part of a modular system.  Air Naturalizer is NOT an “air purifier” It is far too sophisticated for that.  Air purification is an older technology that doesn’t solve the whole problem.  Our bodies were designed to live outdoors! As we have discussed, outdoor air is NOT pure.  It is energized and that is what makes it cleaner and more healthful.

The Air Naturalizer has been shown to be equally effective in homes, offices, vehicles or just about anywhere you need the benefits that fresh outdoor air provides.  Air Naturalizer is available in single units, two unit Studio Systems and 4 unit Whole Home Systems which cover up to 3200 square feet.  Why is it designed to be modular?  Well, in a building, whether home or place of business there are few, if any spaces that have an open, unobstructed 3200 square feet.  No air filter, air purifier or any device can treat air behind walls or through closed doors.  Houses and offices have discrete, modular spaces so any air treatment solution should be designed to work in that environment.

The Air Naturalizer, in addition to imparting the energy to the air, creates the hydroxyls, and other compounds necessary to rid indoor air of harmful pollutants just as nature does, it removes odors from the air quickly and efficiently.  It also kills germs and bacteria on surfaces.  Its’ ionizing engine puts that “balance” into indoor air and like outdoor air takes even those very small less than 0.3 micron particles that HEPA filters can’t get out of the air.  Like outdoor air, indoor air energized with the Air Naturalizer helps us breathe more deeply, oxygenate our blood better and improve our immune system and organ efficiency. This unique technology uses no filters, chemicals or perfume.  It is virtually maintenance free requiring only a very infrequent cleaning consisting of removing the cover and lightly brushing or blowing off some accumulated dust.  The Air Naturalizer has a Five (5) Year Warranty!

Because of all this, in addition to homes and offices,  the Air Naturalizer is also very effective in nurseries, senior care facilities, memory care facilities among other areas where odor and germ control are important.
